FC Barcelona vs UD Almeria: Barça looks to bounce back

Almeria comes to the Camp Nou to face a Barça team that needs to get back to winning ways in the league

Pinto is out with back pain but Jordi Alba makes a welcome return

The players and coaches of FC Barcelona have spent the past few days rebuilding their confidence after last weekend’s disappointment.  This Sunday, Barça takes on Almeria in the Camp Nou (9 pm, Canal +) with a two-fold objective – a good performance and the three points.  After coming away from the Anoeta empty-handed, Tata Martino’s players know they cannot afford to drop any more points in the race for the league title.

Tata Martino: “I have complete confidence in the team’s reaction”

The Barça manager told a press conference today: “The team is very self critical, both the players and the coaching staff”

Martino remains upbeat about Barça’s title hopes: “The league title is still in our hands but we need to win all our matches and play well”
Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino gave a press conference on Saturday ahead of Sunday’s league clash with Almeria in the Camp Nou (kick-off 9 pm).  Following on from last week’s defeat to Real Sociedad, he revealed. “The result in the Anoeta puts more pressure on us against Almeria.  It’s been a bad week, the same as it always is after a bad result”.  Asked by reporters to comment on some of the critical remarks made about him following that slip-up, he insisted: “It’s not for me to judge either the criticism or the praise”.
“It’s in our hands”
However, Martino is confident about the team’s possibilities: “The league title is still in our hands but we need to win all our matches and if we play well, we’ll have a better chance”.  “The team is very self critical, both the players and the coaching staff, and that’s why I have complete confidence in a good reaction”.

Barça’s great record against Almeria

Barça has an excellent record against the Andalus club, consisting of nine wins and two draws

Barça has won all five matches played in the Camp Nou

Leo Messi has scored eleven times against Almeria

This Sunday, FC Barcelona will face Almeria in the Camp Nou (9 pm, C+).  The two clubs have met eleven times before, the first of those encounters coming as recently as the 2007/2008 season, Almeria’s first in the Spanish top flight.  Barça’s record in these matches could scarcely be better, with nine wins – including all five matches played in the Camp Nou – and two draws.

A great record

The two clubs first met in the 2007/2008 season, Frank Rijkaard’s last as manager.  Barça won 2-0 in the Camp Nou thanks to goals from Henry and Messi, the latter scoring just six minutes after coming on for Ronaldinho.  In Almeria, the result was 2-2, Barça’s goals coming from Bojan and Eto’o.
The following season, with Pep Guardiola at the helm, Barça won 5-0 in Almeria.  The goals all came in a blistering 36-minute spell including a hat trick from Eto’o and a goal apiece from Henry and Alves.  Barça then won the away match 0-2 thanks to a brace from Bojan. The 2009/2010 season wasn’t quite so easy and Barça had Pedro to thank for a tight 1-0 win in the Camp Nou, though two goals from Leo Messi ensured a more comfortable 0-2 win in Almeria.
